OWENS: Irene Owens (nee Dunn) passed away peacefully at her residence in Alexander, MB on June 5, 1999. Irene was born May 27, 1940 in Alexander to parents, Fred and Maude Dunn. She completed her schooling in Alexander. During her early years of working, Irene was employed with Investors Group in Winnipeg. Irene married Murray Owens and together they had two sons, Greg and Jeff. In addition to being a wonderful mother to her boys, she worked for Canada Post as a rural mail carrier for 19 years. Irene involved herself in various local community organizations and events. She enjoyed many family functions, especially attending the Wheat King hockey games and participating in rural fairs. Irene was also actively involved as a member of the Alexander United Church. Irene was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Maude Dunn; sisters: Carol and Lois; and brother, Arnold. She is survived by her husband Murray John Owens; sons, Gregory (Deb) and Jeff; grandchildren Bryson and Taylor; brother, Bill (Janet); sisters, Judy (Ferg) Watt and June (Bob) Long and their families. Funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on June 9, 1999. Rev. John Nesbitt officiated. Pallbearers were Rob Hill, Darryl Speers, Scott Watt, Stacey Watt, Carole Dunn and Chris Owens. Interment followed in the Alexander Cemetery. Donations in memory of Irene may be graciously directed to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 203 - 42 McTavish Ave. E., Brandon, MB, R7A 2B2.
