The death of Peter Pow, age 101 years occurred at his residence, Fairview Home on Saturday, November 16, 2002. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday, (tonight), November 19, 2002 from 7:00 pm. to 8:00 pm. The funeral ceremony will be held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. David S. Wilson of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brandon cemetery. The family of Peter Pow sadly announces his passing on Saturday, November 16, 2002, at the age of 101 years. Peter was born on October 9, 1901 in Prestonpans, Scotland. He worked in the coalmines in Scotland prior to immigrating to Canada in 1921. On June 16, 1926, Peter married Lillian May Porter and they lived in Brandon all their lives. Peter helped install Brandon's streetcar tracks. He then went on to work for McDiarmids Lumber, then Wades Lumber, which then became North American Lumber, until he retired in 1968. He has been an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church since 1921. He became a member of the Brandon City Lodge #6 (Odd Fellows) in 1943. Through his many years of service he achieved the offices of Grand Patriot of the Grand Encampment of Manitoba, the Noble Grand, and also District Deputy Grand Master, and became an honorary life member. Peter didn't miss "Opening Day" at the races at Assiniboia Downs for seventy-five consecutive years. He loved soccer and played in the Brandon Soccer League with the "Congo's". At the age of 96 he officially opened the Canada Games Soccer Event held in Brandon in 1997. Peter also loved to lawn bowl and excelled for many years with the Wheat City Lawn Bowling Club. Peter was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Lillian in 1983; his daughter Mary McEachern in 1998; parents, three sisters and two brothers in Scotland. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Pheme Gibb of Scotland; by his daughter, Helen Bigl; sons, Richard (Barb) Pow and Terry (Sam) Pow, and by his grandchildren Don McEachern, Patricia Pelletier, Kim Kramer, Kelly McEachern, Garry (Patricia) Smith, Bob (Barb) Smith, Karen (Pat) Hurl, Lori Aube, Stephanie (Ryan) Fordyce, Matthew (Brandy) Pow, and Jennifer (Joseph) Wilson. He leaves as well twenty great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. Peter lived in his own home at 106 Louise Ave, until the age of 94. Since that time he has resided in the wonderful care of the staff of Fairview Nursing Home. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. David Wilson will officiate. Interment will be in the Brandon Cemetery.
