Peter Jacob Lepp, age 96, of Brandon MB passed from this life into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of May 7th, 2026 at Dinsdale Personal Care Home, with family present.
Peter was born in Georgestal, Ukraine on February 26, 1930 to parents Jacob and Maria Lepp. He lost his father at 5 years old and his family endured many hardships under the rule of communism. His mother and four sisters worked hard in whatever ways they could to survive. In 1943 they travelled with the German Army westward as the Russian army advanced from the east. His oldest sister Tina, stayed behind in Zaporizhzhia, and was eventually sent to work in Siberia. The rest of the family spent time in Poland until the end of World War II, working on farms, etc. Peter, along with two sisters were able to escape into West Germany in 1945 as the Iron Curtain of Communism was being formed. After 2-3 years in an Allied refugee camp, Peter was connected to the Isaak family, through the Red Cross and MCC, to come join them in Rivers MB, Canada.
After a challenging Atlantic crossing aboard the SS Scythia, he arrived in Quebec, Canada on November 14, 1948, followed by a train ride to Rivers. He spent time working for various farmers in the Rivers area, learned the English language, and eventually was able to purchase the farm in the Little Saskatchewan River Valley. He married his wife Louise Neufeld in August of 1954. In his mid twenties, Dad gave his heart to Jesus Christ at evangelistic meetings held by Lawrence Warkentin in Rivers. Since that time he has done his best to live out the Christian faith as he raised his family of five children while farming the land in the Kirkham Bridge neighborhood.
Peter was a founding/charter member of Faith Fellowship Baptist Church in Brandon, MB. He will be remembered for always having a warm welcome and often bringing friends and strangers alike to a hayride on the farm. He became incredibly skilled at growing anything from acres of grain to marigolds and tomatoes in his garden. To this day he remains the only one who could keep a fruit tree alive on the farm. In 2006 Peter and Louise retired to the Lions Manor in Brandon. They spent several great years there until their health necessitated a move to Dinsdale PCH in 2017. There they both received professional, compassionate and loving care from the staff. Our family is very thankful for how they took care of “Papa”.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Louise. He is survived by his 5 children; Ingrid, Robert, Dan, Alvin and Eileen, their spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Peter Lepp will be held on Sunday May 17th @ 2:30 pm at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church in Brandon, MB.
A private family burial will be held in Rivers prior to the service.
2 Timothy 4:7-8- I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
