EVANS: The death o f Peter William "Sonny" Evans, age 80 years, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. The Ceremony to Celebrate Sonny's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Friday, November 26, 2004 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. Joan Jarvis, of Central United Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Sonny to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation - for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3. EVANS: The death of Peter William "Sonny" Evans, age 80 years, occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, November 17, 2004. Sonny was the only son born to William and Anna Evans in Brandon, on April 19, 1924. He was raised with his sister, Evelyn. He attended school at David Livingston and Earl Oxford Schools. He enlisted at an early age and served in the Canadian Armed Forces. Sonny ventured into many different fields of employment over the years. He enjoyed his work in carpentry, later opening Sonny's Grocery. He also worked at Homecrest Farms. Sonny was the manager at the Riverview Curling Club and later worked for Manitoba Telephone System. He then served as the Reeve of Cornwallis for 11 years. During his years as reeve, Sonny served on the boards of the R.H.A., the Area Planning Board and was instrumental in the building of the new Cornwallis Municipal Building. He was always active and pursued many interests including collecting and carving Diamond Willow. He loved to dance and enjoyed the many casino bus tours. He also enjoyed nature, his great backyard view and all the birds, especially the hummingbirds. Sonny was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans of Canada and the Brandon and Area Foundation. Sonny is survived by his sons, Danny (Heather) Evans, Roger Evans, and daughter Cindy (Fred) Jackson; grandchildren, Matthew, Cody, Katherine, Corrie Jackson, Dwight, Alannah, and Alecia Evans. There are four great grandchildren. His sister, Evelyn McPherson and special friends; Lee Clarke and Bert Dunham also survive. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy; father, William, mother Anna Thorley; step-father, Jack Thorley; and his "Baba" and "GeeGee" Shadlock.
