Obituary

EWEN: Percy Borden. It is with sadness that our family announces the death of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather on September 2, 2007 at Valleyview Care Centre. Percy was born on August 30, 1914, to John and Norma Ewen. He was raised in Glen Ewen Saskatchewan, one of nine children. Percy married Lorena Schneider in 1939 at Edrans, Manitoba. They farmed in the Firdale District, moving to Austin in 1948, where they raised their 2 children. Percy moved to Brandon in 1998. Percy was an avid golfer, curler and hunter, as well as being very involved in the community. He was a jokester who loved life. His career involved farming, teaching school, and managing a Co-op and Credit Union. Percy was predeceased by his loving wife Lorena in 1993 and his son-in-law Bill in 2006. He leaves to mourn his son Rod (Judy) Ewen, daughter Deanna Makinson and five grandchildren: Shannon Makinson, Sandra Makinson (JTrTmie Gent), Shaun Ewen (Jennifer), Tracy Ewen (Joachim Stadel) and Wade Ewen (Liz Swift). He was also Great Grandpa to Jake and Danika Ewen, Eva and Abigail Makinson Gent, and Giles Ewen. The family sincerely thanks all the staff at Valleyview Care Centre for the excellent care given to Percy during his stay. A special thank you to Pat Pink for being his winter daughter. A graveside service will be held at the Austin Cemetery, Austin, Manitoba on Friday September 7, 2007 at 12:30 pm, followed by a celebration of his life at the Austin United Church at 2:00 p.m. The family invites you to join them for fellowship following the service at the Austin Community Hall. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations in memory of Percy may be made to the Austin Community Hall Building Fund, Box 27, Austin, Manitoba, R0H 0C0. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
