OMELJANOW (OMILANOW): it is with deep regret and sadness that we announce the death of Paul Edmund Omilanow beloved, devoted husband of Gertie. Paul peacefully passed away on July 20, 2005 at the Assiniboine Centre after a courageous battle with cancer. Paul was born on September 1, 1929 in Blaine Lake, SK. After graduation, Paul joined the R.C.M.P. In the mid 1950's he worked for Sun Life Insurance. Paul met and married the love of his life, Gertie Allard on September 17, 1960 in Timmins, Ontario. In 1962, they moved to Brandon and took over the family farm, which they operated for thirty-six years. Alongside farming, he had his own construction company, Gerpau Construction. Paul was known for his joke telling. His day was not complete until he had put a smile on someone's face, whether it was the cashier at the grocery store or on an old friend he would see at the mall. One of Paul's greatest joys was spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. These "get togethers" usually included a three- course meal that he had taken all day to lovingly prepare. He loved to cook and his hospitality knew no bounds. One of his greatest talents was his meticulous carpentry work. Many homes and businesses showcased his fine workmanship. Paul was a consummate volunteer, being involved in the Knights of Columbus, the UCT, the Brandon Hockey Tournament of Champions and many more organizations over the years. Paul leaves to mourn: his loving wife Gertie, children; Paul Jr. Omilanow, Wendy Enns, Cindy (Allan) Garden, Marie (Alain) Cayer. Grandchildren: Kendall and Tess Omilanow; Justin, Kayla and Jaden Enns; Camryn and Avery Garden; Joshua, Angele and Cara Cayer. He also leaves brother, Wally (Karen) Omilanow and sister, Mary -Lou Michalyshen. Also surviving are: brother and sister-in-law, Romeo and Ray Allard, sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Mike Brewer, sister and brother-in-law, Diane and Roger Carriere; brother and sister-in-law, Andy and Cecile Allard. There are many special nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Omilyanow, sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Ann Fedoruk, brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Stella Omilanow; brother-in-law, Joe Michalyshen; great nephew, Ryan Roy; mother and father-in-law, Conrad and Antoinette Allard; brother-in-law Jules Allard. A service of celebration of his life was held at St. Augustine's Catholic Church on Thursday, July 28, 2005. Celebrant was Fr. Leo Fernandes. Paul's family was very honored to have his fellow "Knights of Columbus" pay their last respects with an honor guard. Paul's dear friends and brother were pallbearers; Gary Hyson, Stan Kozak, Dale Mitchell and Wally Omilanow. A private interment followed at the Brandon cemetery. Donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care. Expressions of Sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727- 0330.
