HAMM: Pamela Hamm (nee Loewen) of Brandon, passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, after a long battle with cancer. Pamela was 64 years old and the beloved wife of Peter Hamm. Pamela, the daughter of the late Ben and Helena (Neustaedter) Loewen of Crystal City, MB, was born on June 27, 1947 at Baldur Hospital. Pamela was raised on a farm near Marringhurst School, which she attended during her elementary school years. The family then moved to a farm southwest of Clearwater and Pamela went to high school in Crystal City. Pamela got her first job at Collins Grocery in Pilot Mound, MB but soon moved on to pursue her dream of becoming a hairdresser. She attended hairdressing school in Winnipeg and later settled in Boissevain where she eventually opened her own shop. While she was living in Boissevain, she met her husband Peter who was managing the local Tom Boy Foods. Peter and Pamela were married on March 13, 1971 and continued to live in Boissevain until 1977 when they moved to Brandon, built their first home and started their family. Their son, Nathan was born in 1977 and daughter, Brenda, was born in 1979. Pamela accepted Jesus Christ as her personal saviour when she was about 16 years old. At that time, she was baptized and became a member of Mather Mennonite Church. When Peter and Pamela moved to Brandon they began attending McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church and Pamela continued to be very involved where she could. When her children were young, Pamela helped with nursery and Junior Church and most recently has spent the past 14 years as food coordinator. Pamela was also active in school fundraisers when the children attended Christian Heritage School. As well, she was heavily involved in the Christian Women's Club organization in southwestern Manitoba and even toured as a special speaker in North Dakota in the early 90s. Pamela was a strong woman who wasn't afraid to try new things. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and loved to meet new people. Pamela seemed to have a special gift for making newcomers at church and at work (Kmart/Zellers) feel welcome and was always telling her children about a particular new person or couple she had met on the previous Sunday or day of work. Many of those people went on to become dear friends of both Peter and Pamela. She will be remembered for her excellent organizational abilities, her hospitality, and her ability to see a job through to completion. Pamela was predeceased by her mother and father and several aunts and uncles. She is survived by her husband Peter, children Nathan Hamm of Brandon, MB, and Brenda (Luke) Joyner and their daughters Anja and Adrienne of Morden, MB; as well as her brothers Robert (Elaine) Loewen of Winkler, MB, and Ron (Stacey) Loewen of Warren, MB, and their families. Funeral services will be held at McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church, 635 McDiarmid Drive, Brandon, on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
