CULBERTSON: Oswald "Oz" Bern Culbertson passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre after a brief illness. Oz was born on August 6, 1924 in the R.M. of Elton and made Brandon home all his life. As a teenager his first job was at the Central Creamery and later he worked at Jack Hughes' Garage. During the war he drove for Bradley's Taxi, which he eventually purchased and became the proud owner of Deluxe Taxi. His true calling however began in 1953 when he signed on with Manitoba Motor Transit. Oz drove for "MMT" and eventually Grey Goose Lines for the next 32 years, retiring in 1985. During this time he earned several awards including Driver of the Year in 1970, Master Driver Award (15 years accident free) in 1977 and the Two Million Mile Safety Award in 1985. Through the years and into his retirement Oz's favourite past times were his morning coffee breaks with "the guys" and his visits to the shopping mall. He always had a smile for everyone, stories to tell, laughs to share and someone to tease. Family was the most important part of Oz's life. He will forever be cherished by: his wife of 52 years, Elva; children, Diana, Clarke (Brenda), Greg and Garry (partner Shauna); and grandchildren Jenny, Kayla, Darcy and Aaron. He will be missed by his surviving brothers Wesley (Gail) and Robert (Agnes); sisters Maybel, Lillian (Art) and June (Garth); sisters-in-law Agnes and May and his many nephews and nieces. Oz was predeceased by: his parents Sophie and John; brothers John and Joseph; sister Ethel and brothers-in-law Wes and John. The Memorial Service was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, January 24, 2004. The Rev. Don Hudson of Knox United Church officiated. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations in memory of "Oz" may be made to a charity of choice. Expressions of Sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

"His golden heart stopped beating,
His hard working hands laid to rest,
Now we know it's true,
God only takes the best."Memorials
