Orville Peter Prokopchuk
November 10, 1949 ~ February 1, 2026
Orv, as he was known to most people, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the age of 76. Orv was born in Brandon, Manitoba on November 10, 1949, to Nellie and Peter Prokopchuk.
As a baby, Orv and his family moved to Uncle Mike’s farm in Crawford Park, then to Sandy Lake and Erickson before moving back to Brandon. Orv attended elementary and high school in Brandon. Following high school, Orv attended Assiniboine Community College and obtained his Barbers License, beginning a long career. Orv was a well-known barber in town whom everyone spoke highly of.
Orv met Gillian Black and they married in February 1974. In 1978 they were blessed with a daughter, Marissa. Marissa grew up primarily with her father during her childhood and they were very close.
Prior to Marissa’s arrival, Orv, an avid hockey player himself, and supporter of the Wheat Kings, boarded Wheat King players in their home. The most well-known being Dave Semenko and Rick Piche, with whom he became very good friends and treasured and maintained those friendships over the years.
Orv had many interests throughout his life. He belonged to the Sea Cadets Band in his high school years. He loved animals and often you would see his faithful Newfie dog, Casey, at his side even while cutting hair. Orv loved Rock-N-Roll music, especially the 70’s.
One of Orv’s passions was fishing. He owned a Bait and Tackle Shop. He spent many days fishing at Sandy Lake, Rivers, and Pelican Lake. Orv was also a self-taught handy man and home builder, building several homes in which they lived in.
Orv was a very active member of the community. He was a member of the Keystone Kinsmen Club where at one time served as President. During his Kinsmen days he enjoyed playing hockey with his fellow members and friends.
Eventually, Orv met his partner Connie Foreman and in semi-retirement they were kept busy working at Orv’s coffee business known as Pro Coffee, and they often travelled in their motorhome.
Due to a very serious motorcycle accident in June 2010, Orv’s life was forever changed; his career as a barber was no longer.
Orv is survived by his loving daughter Marissa Prokopchuk; his sister Liz (Earl) Andrusiak; nephew Owen (Sandra) Andrusiak; great-nephew John Andrusiak; great-niece Alison Andrusiak, Vince Andrusiak (Lauri); great-niece Emily Popp Andrusiak; his sister Iris (Dan) Sutherland; niece Lisa (Barry) Chapman; great-nephew Zachary Chapman; great-niece Arianna (Jake) Carlson, Tanner Chapman; great-niece Madison (Harrison) Theocharakis; and great-niece Carly Sutherland.
Orv was predeceased by his parents Nellie and Peter Prokopchuk, very close Uncle Mike Prokopchuck, partner Connie Forman, and beloved nephew Dean Sutherland, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the many doctors and nurses who provided care and compassion to Orv throughout the years. Special thanks to caregiver/friend Jesse Dourado.
