MALEY: Orville Maley, November 6, 1916 - January 25, 2008. Orville was born in Brandon, the second of five children, to Fred and Florence Maley. He spent most of his life in Brandon and learned his watchmaking trade from his father while they both worked for Reesor? Jewellery Store. Orville and Viola Street were married September 23, 1940 and bought their first house on Brandon Avenue to start raising their family. Orv decided to start his own business opening Maley? Jewellery in 1950 at 757-13th Street, and raising their family in the house behind the store. In 1980 when Orville began to lose his sight, they built a house and retired in Onanole. They spent 20 great years there with friends old and new. They moved back to Brandon to reside in Lion? Manor in 2000, where they celebrated their 60th Anniversary. Orville loved the outdoors. He could be seen out for his walk or riding his bike every morning before opening the store, and most of his days off were spent hunting or fishing. He and mom loved to dance, often taking a turn around the kitchen to the music on the radio, and most winter Sundays were spent at the arena where they strapped on their speed skates. They took up cross-country skiing when they moved to the lake to help pass the winters and drove to Mesa for a few winters until the trip became too difficult. Orville began his fight with Alzheimer? and shortly after moving back to Brandon he moved to Fairview Home, where he spent his remaining five years. Orv was predeceased by his parents, an infant brother Donnie, a baby sister who died at birth, brother George and his wife Bernice, sister-in-law Dorothy, and brother-in-law George Draper. His loss is mourned by his wife, Viola, sons Bill (Pat) of Victoria, Doug (Donna) of Quesnel, daughters, Joyce (Lance) Lidster of Brandon, and Linda (Michael) Moore of Yanis, Texas, grandchildren, Danny and Jamey Maley, Brian, Cory (Marie) Maley, and Jody Penner (Christian), Robin (David) Marshall, Chris (Rachel) Dixon, and Tara (Jordan) Pratt. There are twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother Ted, of Boynton Beach, Florida, sister-in-law Joyce (Art) Clawson of Edmonton, sister-in-law June Draper of Grandview, many nieces and nephews and their families. We will all miss his boisterous laugh, his great sense of humour and his companionship. Many thanks are extended to his caretakers at Fairview and especially to Dr. Mary Egan for her compassionate care for Orville and the family. Cremation has taken place and by his wishes, a service and interment will be at a later date. Donations in Orville? memory may be made to the Alzheimer? Society or the CNIB.
