Obituary

NEALE: Olive Marion Neale passed away peacefully on Friday, March 10, 2006 at the Assiniboine Centre after a short battle with cancer. Mom was born on the family farm, the eighth child and only girl of George and Williamina Coleman. She was raised on the farm located between Waskada and Goodlands. Mom attended Waterloo and Addington Schools and took her grade 11 at Waskada School before attending Brandon Commercial School. Upon completion she took a job as a toll billing clerk at Manitoba Telephone System. It was during this time she met Ross Neale and they were married June 2, 1948. They lived in many small towns in Manitoba as Dad brought phone service in to the community. Mom was a fine athlete and played ladies fastball all her life. The last team she played for was Curly McKay and Sons in the Brandon Ladies League. She also participated in 5-pin bowling in both Mixed League and Ladies League. Mom won many trophies and awards in both of these sports. She also coached her daughters as they participated in the small sports. Mom tended bar for the Officers and Sergeants Mess in the Brandon Armory for many years, retiring as an honorary Gunner of the 26th Field Regiment. In the last years she enjoyed meeting friends for coffee at Chyrel's Tea Room. She will be lovingly remembered by: her husband, Ross; daughters, Faye (Dwight) Carkener of Brandon, Ann (David) Pickford of Douglas, and Joan (Arnold) Winstone of Strathclair; grandchildren, Ian (Jody) Carkener, Nancy Carkener of Brandon, Christopher (Tammy) Pickford of Drayton Valley, AB, Marlis (Jim) Russell of Brandon, Blaine, Lacey and Lindsay Winstone of Strathclair; great grandchildren, Caitlyn and Warren Carkener of Brandon, and Bradley an Bretton Pickford of Drayton Valley. She will also be greatly missed by her brothers, Bill (Evelyn) Coleman and Mark Coleman; sister-in-law, Alice Coleman, brother-in-law, John (Phil) Neale and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by: her parents and parents-in-law; brothers, Vincent, Raymond, Murray, Orvel and Mervyn; sisters-in-law, Georgina, Lena, Lorna and Marsha Coleman, Ella Burton and Dorothy Martin; brothers-in-law, Harold Burton and Russ Martin. At Mom's request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
