COLLINS: Olga "Ollie" Collins of Sprucewoods, MB, beloved wife of Wilfred, passed away suddenly in Brandon on Saturday, March 13, 2004. Ollie was born on February 1, 1940 at Foley, Manitoba, on the family farm, the daughter of Marko and Olga Borodey. Ollie received her education at Foley School where she attended with her four brothers and one sister. After completing her education she worked a variety of jobs: farming, retail, as an assistant to an Occupational Therapist. Ollie spent a year with her sister, Lucy in Vancouver, BC and another year with her brother Alex in Red Lake, ON, where she provided some childcare for his family. While living in Thunder Bay, ON, Ollie and Wilfred met. They were married July 30, 1966. Their first child, Jeffery Charles, was stillborn in 1968. They moved to Winnipeg in 1969 and applied to adopt a child. They were thrilled when Chris arrived to them in 1970. In 1978, they moved to Sprucewoods, where Wilf was employed as a plumber. Ollie and Wilf built a home there and Ollie became involved in the community, whenever possible. She was the treasurer for the Community Centre for many years. Ollie was a stay-at-home Mom and enjoyed her time at home with Chris. She had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 16, however, she never let it get in her way. She lived an active and busy life, and was a courageous woman. After Wilf retired in 1998, she enjoyed the travelling they did together. She loved to see performers on the big stage and was a great fan of swing music. Ollie enjoyed cooking. She was raised in a Ukrainian home and she always wanted everyone to eat well. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. Ollie often talked with her neighbours on the phone and she made friends easily. Nothing was more important to Ollie than her family, so she was especially delighted when her grandson Ryan was born. Ollie and Wilf made the trip to Calgary when he was born, a time she treasured greatly. She was predeceased by her parents: Marko and Olga Borodey; infant son, Jeffery Charles Collins; and brothers, Alex, Walter, and Jack Borodey. She will be treasured forever by: her husband Wilfred; son, Christopher (Mikaela) Collins; grandson, Ryan Collins; sister, Lucy Iverson; brother, Mike Borodey and many other family and friends. The Ceremony to Celebrate Ollie's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, March 18, 2004. Rev. Barbara Jardine officiated. Interment followed in the Madford Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Ollie to the Arthritis Society, 153-8th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 3W9 or to a charity of choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
