Obituary

Wyton: Norman Charles "Jim" Wyton passed away at his residence, Riverdale Personal Care Home, Rivers, on Saturday, November 8, 2003, with the love of family by his side. Jim was born on November 18, 1912 to Joseph and Elizabeth Wyton in the Village of Douglas. He grew up on the family farm in the RM of Cornwallis, south of Douglas, and obtained his education at the Lawrence School. In 1947 he met and married Phyllis Jahrig of Brandon, and they started their life together on the family farm. In 1950, they purchased their own farm and it was there that they raised their family together. Jim farmed most of his life, but also worked other jobs at times. He worked for a time at the Shilo campsite and the CP Railway. He also helped out his neighbours on their farms when needed. In 1978, Jim and Phyllis retired from farming and moved to Douglas where they lived for 3 years. He was involved with the Carberry Wildlife Association and always enjoyed hunting with friends and his family. Jim had a great love of nature. He loved to take long walks and to garden, both which he continued to do into his 80's. Jim and Phyllis moved to Rivers in 1982 and enjoyed their home and new friends. When their health began to fail, they moved to the Riverdale Manor, then to the Riverdale Personal Care Home, where Jim was known for his quick sense of humour, never missing a chance to make one smile or to get a wink in at one of his favorite gals. Jim is survived by his wife Phyllis; son Douglas of Rivers; daughters Dale Bird of Brandon, Janice (David) Woods of Athabaska, AB, Heather (Ron) Dalgleish of Sprucewoods. Grandchildren Chris Woods (Kelli) of Prince George, BC and Kim Woods (Sam) of Edmonton, AB; one special cousin, Carol Brown of Brandon and many nieces and nephews also survive him. Jim was predeceased by his father Joseph in 1960; mother Elizabeth in 1965; brother George in 1990; sister Isla in 1993; brother Robert "Bert" in 1995; by an infant son Kenneth in 1960 and special cousins Dorothy and Bob Brown. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Rivers United Church. Rev. Glenna Beauchamp officiated. Urn Bearer was his grandson Chris Woods. Interment will take place at a later date. Friends wishing to make a donation in memory of Jim may do so to the Riverdale Personal Care Home, Box 428, Rivers, MB R0K 1X0.

"The pain we feel most deeply is the hardest thing to say, because we your family love you in a special way. We hold you close within our hearts, no distance can divide. For today in memory lane, we still walk side by side. Our thoughts are with you, your place no one can fill. In life we loved you dearly in death we love you still."
