Obituary

WARD: Norman Theo, of Brandon, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at St. Boniface General Hospital, Winnipeg. Norm was born on July 26, 1935 at Baldur, Manitoba, the second youngest child of Victoria Amanda and Fred Ward. Upon completion of his schooling in Baldur he worked as a farm hand on farms in the area. In 1954, Norm joined the Canadian Army and served with the P.P.C.L.I. While serving in Germany, he took leave and visited relatives in Newcastle, England. While in Newcastle, he met the girl who was to become his wife, Joyce Hume. Norm returned to Canada and obtained his release from the Canadian Army on February 3, 1958. Joyce immigrated to Canada and Norm and she were married on March 29, 1958. On April 1, 1958, Norm joined the Brandon Fire Department. He served as a fire fighter for 20 years and then as the Fire Prevention Education Officer for 16 years. Norm and Joyce have two children, Norman Jr. (Sam) and Valerie. He was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Brandon, where he served as an Elder on Session as well as on the Board of Managers. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion #3, and the 26th Field Regiment, R.C.A. Museum. Norman and Joyce enjoyed their cottage at Otter Lake as well as being able to spend the winters in Texas. Norm was predeceased by; his mother and father, brothers; Jim and Allen, and sisters; Mirian Hawkes and Dulcie Nelson. He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted and loving wife of 44 years; Joyce, son; Norman (Nancy) Ward Jr., daughter; Valerie (Ron) Farquhar, grandchildren; Andrea and Adam Farquhar, brother; George (Ila) Ward of Pentiction, BC, sisters; Margaret (Bob) Chesney, and Evelyn (Bob) Avery of Rock Lake, MB, brother-in-law; Mert Nelson of Pilot Mound, MB, and sister-in-law; Irene Ward of Winnipeg. Norman is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. The Ceremony to Celebrate Norman's life was held at First Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 7, 2002. Reverend David Wilson officiated.
