Nina May McKenzie of Brandon, passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on Thursday, January 28, 1999. Nina was born on November 3, 1922 in Brandon to Walter and Jessie Cox. She lived her entire life here, beginning as an "Eastender". Mom stayed at home in the early years, raising her children. She worked as a Nurse's Aide at the International Nursing Home for many years until she retired early because of ill health. Mom's greatest happiness was when she was with her family and their friends. She lived a very quiet and modest lifestyle. She was known for her many "daft" sayings and expressions which humored her family immensely. Her yearly trips to Clear Lake with family were times of great joy to her. We'll miss the way, when she answered the phone, how could you "hear" the smile in her voice. Her presence and love will be greatly missed. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Jessie, husband Keith and daughter, Lynne. She is survived by her daughter Janis Brown of Winnipeg; son Don (Brenda) and daughter Cathy (Kim) Chicoine of Brandon. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren; Sean, Ryan, Jessica, Jamie, great grandson Cole and "adopted daughter" Denise Cameron. A brother, Keith Cox of Winnipeg and son-in-law Dennis Jones as well a nephews and cousins also survive. The funeral service was held at First Baptist Church on Monday, February 1, 1999 with Rev. Orton Anderson officiating. Pallbearers were: Sean Brown, Ryan Jones, David Cox, Chris Speelman, Vern Anderson and Rick Thomson. "The Lord's Prayer" was beautifully sung by Terry Simpson. Interment followed in the Brandon cemetery. Our lives were so much richer for having the love of our Mom. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
"Be at peace, Mom."
