DARICHUK: Nickolas (Nick) Darichuk of Brandon, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 7, 2004. Nick was born in Yorkton, SK. on February 21, 1946, the youngest of six children born to Anna and Metro Darichuk. Nick moved to Calgary where he found employment in the dry cleaning industry. Though only 16, he threw himself into his work, becoming manager of the cleaning room; then at the age of 26, became a partner. He worked with a goal to own Budget Drycleaners - and did - by the age of 28. Nick sold Budget Cleaners, and in 1988, moved to an acreage in Onanole. Retirement to Nick though, was just working at something different. He enjoyed cutting his "16 Acre Lawn", tending to his market garden, and his toys; his truck, chain saw, tractor and snowmobiles. But he missed people. The Clear Lake Golf Course became his next passion. He learned about grass there; had lots of fun, then moved on as grounds keeper at the Elkhorn Resort. In 2000, Nick retired again, moving to Brandon in the fall. He loved the City, his new small yard and he found a new passion; sales at Princess Auto. He loved the company's management concept, team members, and helping customers buy their toys and build their dreams - or fix their old ones! Work was play to Nick. He worked hard, played hard, always had goals, and usually had fun. There weren't many situations in life that didn't teach him something, or make him laugh. And there was always time for a joke! Even this past year and half journey with Cancer was traveled with goals, determination, and laughter. He kept daily journals about his health, in case anyone could learn something from them. Nick is survived by; his wife of 29 years, Gwen, sister Sophie Shingera, sister Irene (Joe) Dychko, all of Yorkton, SK., and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by; an infant brother Peter, brother George, parents Anna and Metro, and brother John. The Ceremony to Celebrate Nick's Life was held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 2:00 pm. The Rev. David Wilson officiated. Honorary Pallbearers were Princess Auto Team Members and all friends and family present at the Celebration. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Nick to Cancer Care Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Expressions of Sympathy may be forwarded to memorieschapel@mts.net. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.

Nick wrote in his journal: "The only recognition I wanted was to be known as honest, hard working, kind and respected by the people that knew me? was always there to lend a helping hand; I enjoyed helping other people, and it made me feel good." - I think you accomplished that, and more, Babe. Rest in peace. You are loved.
