Obituary

With deep love and gratitude for his life, we share the passing of Neill Joseph Koensgen.

Neill is survived by his devoted spouse, Brenda Linski; daughter Jackie (Julian); son Jeff (Kerri); and stepdaughter Tracey (Lorne). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Nova, Zane, and Bennett. Neill is also survived by his siblings Shelley and Stuart and was predeceased by his parents Felix and Mary—and by his beloved dogs Hilda, Maggie, Selena, and Flea, who always lived in his heart.

In 2001, Neill crossed paths with an old acquaintance, Brenda, at a New Year's Eve social where music was performed by his friend Garth Dandy's band, Cold Duck. He wasted no time trying to win her over with his dance moves. His charm worked—they were married in 2004 and built a relationship that truly thrived. Neill held down the fort while Brenda pursued her many hobbies, and together they created a life full of laughter, friendship, and adventure.

Neill built a long and successful career in real estate, where he not only excelled as an agent but also found deep fulfillment in mentoring others. During his time with RE/MAX, he made many friends and took great pride in helping new agents find their footing and encouraging them to stay the course.

Neill was blessed with many enduring friendships—some that spanned a lifetime. He had an incredible sense of humor and a smile and laugh that could light up any room. As Jackie and Jeff grew older, Neill also forged a close friendship with them, playing the role of father, advisor, and best friend. In August, he had the joy of walking Jackie down the aisle.

Clear Lake held a special place in Neill's heart, with some treasured memories during the years that Jackie and Jeff were young. He loved their time swimming in the pool at Thunderbird Bungalows, going to the playground, boating and tubing, and taking morning walks — all creating cherished memories of their childhood summers. Neill and Brenda also treasured their time together at Frith Beach, boating in their pontoon boat and hosting friends and family. They formed many special friendships at their first cabin in Grey Owl Estates and later at Poplar Ridge Golf Course—where they enjoyed barbecues, golf, and Steak Night with the Poplar Ridge crew.

Neill didn't need much to make him happy. Thanks to Brenda, he also developed a love of travel, exploring Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Arizona, and most recently, a European river cruise and a beautiful vacation in Portugal. He also got to spend two vacations in Mexico with Brenda, Jackie, and his grandson Bennett. As long as he had his friends and family — and often a rye and some chips — he had all he needed. He loved barbecuing, quiet moments of solitude, and time spent with family and nature.

A lifelong animal lover, Neill's compassion extended to every creature. As a boy, he often brought home rescued animals—squirrels, birds, and anything in need of care. In recent years, he befriended a crow he named Bob, who became a faithful visitor over the past two years.

A celebration of Neill's life will be held at The Victoria Inn - 3550 Victoria Ave, Brandon, MB on Friday, November 7th, 2025 at 1:00 pm, where stories, laughter, and memories can be shared in his honour.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation Centre, Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, or a charity of your choice.

Neill will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His spirit will live on in the laughter he inspired, the people he helped, and the countless lives he touched.
