ROSS: Myrtle Irene Ross passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, August 16, 2006. Myrtle, the last surviving sibling of seven children, born to Jerry and Lena Skinner (McGuire), was born September 4, 1925 in Griswold, Manitoba. She spent her early years on the family farm in Alexander. On January 1, 1945, she married Alex Ross and they raised three children. Myrtle helped with the family business of general contracting in Rivers. In 1974, the Ross family re-established in Rapid City. Failing health brought Alex and Myrt to Brandon some twenty years later. Myrt enjoyed her membership with the Women's Institute and the Rebeccas'. She was an avid antique collector and a great gardener. In their beautiful surroundings near Rapid City, she loved watching the birds, feeding the deer, reading and painting. Family and friends were always welcomed warmly. Myrt enjoyed travelling to Lions' conventions with Alex throughout Canada and the United States. Another interest was a deep love of music. From singing with her sisters, her husband, to hosting jam sessions in her home, Myrtle loved nothing better than to have the house filled with memorable times. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, music and learning. Left to cherish her memory are her children Diane (Joe) Dvorak of Port Alberni, British Columbia, Jerry (Marilyn) Ross of Brandon, and Jim (Carolyn) Ross of Winnipeg; grandchildren Ryan Dvorak, Janine (Owen) Charlesworth, Maggie Ross (Ethan McMonagle), Alison Ross, Bernice Ross, Tavis Ross, Dylan Ross, Loni Shapkin (Shawn Baker) and Eric Ross; great-grandchildren Kiarra and Meika Charlesworth and Colin and Faith Kennedy; sisters-in-law Rose Madder, Mabel Kelly, Marg Skinner, Helen Sibbald; brothers-in-law Bill Sibbald and Arsene Smeets and many extended family members and friends. A Service of Remembrance was held at Knox United Church on August 21, 2006. Rev. Harvey Hurren officiated. Interment followed at the Rapid City Cemetery.
