Myrtle Harrod passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Dinsdale Personal Care Home on March 7, 2001. Myrtle was born on June 11, 1917 in Brandon. She attended school in Brandon and Carroll. Later her family moved to Newdale, where she met William G. Harrod. They were married on July 12, 1943 and resided in Newdale until 1956, when they moved to Alexander. Mom raised her family and then went to work at the Victor House and YMCA. She loved music and as a talented soloist was asked to sing at many functions over her lifetime. She was a member of the Prairie Oasis Choir for a number of years. She enjoyed knitting, making costumes, baking and the years at the family cabin at Sandy Lake. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill in 1974, grandson Rick Brown in 1989 and son-in-law, Barry McPhee in 1994. Myrtle is survived by one son, Jim (Karen) Harrod of Edmonton, and three daughters, Karen (Gordon) Campbell; Joan (Doug) Atkins; and Judy McPhee, all of Brandon, seven grandchildren, Randy (Debbie) Brown; Kim Bella; Brandy Harrod; Brent and Mark Atkins; and Michael and Ellerie McPhee. Five step-grandchildren, Kerry; Craig (Donna); Kevin (Heather) Campbell; Shauna (Craig) Maitland; and Janet Campbell, three great grandsons, Kelton and Kyle Bella and Allan Brown, ten step-great grandchildren, special foster son, Barry Mulligan and special family friends, Wanda and Jamie Olson. The Memorial Service for Myrtle will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church on Saturday, March 10, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Garry MacDowall officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
