NICHOL: With deepest sorrow we announce the death of Muriel Mae (Hyndman) Nichol in Brandon on Tuesday, October 31, 2006. Muriel was born December 2, 1919 and raised on her family's farm at McConnell, Manitoba (R.M. of Blanshard). She was the eldest daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Brown) Hyndman. Muriel received her early education at Marland School and completed by correspondence. Muriel met Bruce Nichol in 1936, and they were married on October 30, 1940. The following year, Bruce entered the army and was posted to Prince Rupert where their first child, a son Lynn was born December 5, 1941. Muriel and Lynn returned to Manitoba when Bruce was sent overseas. After the war years, Muriel and Bruce settled in McConnell, Manitoba where they worked together operating their own business. Their daughter Brenda was born November 27, 1949. A few years later they settled in Brandon and Muriel devoted some years to caring for her family. She later took employment with the Ashdown Hardware Company and in time became manager of the china department. Following Ashdown's closure, she worked as a cashier at Clement's Super Thrifty Drugs. She retired from the work force in 1981. Muriel's main interest was her family and her home. She'll be long remembered for her beautiful gardens and her love of nature. Muriel also treasured her friends and enjoyed time spent in their company. Muriel and Bruce spent many happy summers after retirement following the harness racing circuit. She also enjoyed their travels throughout Canada. Muriel is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Bruce, daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Greg Clark; grandsons Todd (Ankha), Bruce (Michelle) Nichol and their families and granddaughter Angela Clark. A brother and sister-in-law Cec and Wilma Nichol, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her son Lynn, parents Ralph and Gladys Hyndman; brother and sister-in-law Elgin and Eloise Hyndman; sister Beth Lambert; brother and sister-in-law Charlie and June Nichol. The Ceremony to Celebrate Muriel's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Monday, November 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Soloist will be neighbour Janet Shaw and organist Donna Cooper. Urn bearer will be granddaughter Angela Clark. Muriel's nephew Garnet Hyndman will offer reflections on Muriel's life.
