After a very short battle with cancer, Morgan Flay, beloved husband of Etta, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon, Manitoba. Morgan was born January 15, 1940 in Boissevain, Manitoba and went to school in Hartney. At the age of 15, he entered the Manitoba Technical Institute in Winnipeg, earning his journeyman carpenter's certificate. He met and married Etta Kilgore on May 28, 1960, and together they raised their family in their home of 32 years that is located in the east end of Brandon where Morgan resided until his passing. During his life, Morgan worked in construction throughout Brandon, and later became self-employed in his own business Bay Builders Brandon Ltd. in 1974. He earned for himself an honorable reputation of being a hard worker within the construction community. As one friend described Dad, he was a good man who loved to work hard and play hard and did both well. He was an avid outdoorsman, he liked his "Big Boy Toys", he belonged to the Sprucewoods Snow Drifters and took special pride in downhill skiing with his granddaughters. Mom and Dad spent their summers and weekends at Minnedosa campground in their RV, where Dad loved to boat and sea-doo. He enjoyed the fishing trips he shared with Mom and their friends. There were not many activities that Dad did not try and enjoy. Dad lived life to its fullest. We were proud of Dad and will miss his sense of adventure and good nature. Morgan is survived by his wife and best friend of 40 years, Etta, his daughters, Karen (Neil) Clark, and Janice (Murray) Robinson, and grand daughters Corissa, Jaiclyn, Taylor, and Melissa; brothers, Bruce (Judi) of Winnipeg and Charles (Rosie) of Chicago; sisters, Eva Siegel and Lois Siegel; step mother, Jeanne Flay of Kelowna; step sister, Pat Noswald of Prince George; many aunts, uncles, cousins, neices, nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law. Morgan was predeceased by his mother, Mary Gwyer, father, George Flay, and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Kilgore. The Ceremony to Celebrate Morgan's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, November 11, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gordon Stevenson of Central United Church officiating. The Urn Bearer was Bert Sokolan. A private family interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Morgan may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
Gone from us that smiling face
That pleasant cheerful way
A heart that won so many friends
In bygone happy days.
Though his smile is gone forever
And his hand we cannot touch
We shall never lose those treasured memories
Of the man we loved so much. Memorials
