MAXWELL: Michelle Louise, age 48 years, passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. She had been battling cancer for many years. Michelle was born on June 27, 1973, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to John and Norma Purse. Growing up, her greatest passions were playing the flute and figure skating. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science majoring in microbiology/biochemistry, and from Brandon University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Education After Degree. She became a respected and beloved teacher at Rivers Collegiate for 19 years, where she also coached high school basketball, track, soccer, and volleyball. Michelle married her high school sweetheart Jeff Maxwell in 1995, and they were still together after more than 26 years at the time of her passing. They had two daughters who were the center of her world, Charley and Georgia-Rae. Michelle put all her time and energy into being the best possible mother and teacher. She always went beyond expectations to support her daughters and her students, as well as a couple honorary children she took under her wing. She was affectionately referred to as "Mama Max" by the various Elton Collegiate sports teams her husband coached throughout the years. Michelle was known for her excellent culinary skills, team spirit, festive holiday outfits, and for her love of animals. And she was a warrior in her fight against this disease. Michelle will be greatly missed by her husband Jeff Maxwell; daughters Georgia-Rae Maxwell and Charley (James) Harness; parents John and Norma Purse; parents-in-law Gary and Linda Maxwell; sister-in-law Jodi (Steve) Maurice; niece Morgan Maurice and nephew Carter Maurice. The Come and Go Celebration of Michelle's Life will be held at the Victoria Inn, 3550 Victoria Avenue, Brandon on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. with a time of reflection at 5:00 p.m. In compliance with Public Health Orders, proof of full immunization will be required.
