The funeral service for Mike Metruk, father of Brian (Pauline) Metruk, will be held, Monday, May 1, 2006, 2:00PM at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North.

METRUK: Michael (Mike) Metruk passed away at the Carman Memorial Hospital, Carman, Manitoba, on Wednesday, April 19, 2006. Mike was born in Brandon on August 24, 1913. He spent most of his life in Brandon. His first job was working at Western Motors in Brandon washing cars. He later moved to Edmonton where he served in the Canadian Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He was transferred to Portage for a short while. He moved back to Brandon and started a concrete block manufacturing business and then in 1963 he joined the Great-West Life Assurance Co. as an insurance agent until his retirement. He married Edith Brown in 1974 and moved to Carman, Manitoba. Mike enjoyed traveling, photography, drumming in church, fishing, metal detecting and carpentry. His favorite pastime was spending time at the cottage at Manhattan Beach where he enjoyed fishing, taking young people skiing, giving people rides in his boat and visiting or helping everyone he knew. Mike will be fondly remembered by his two sons by his first marriage Brian (Pauline) from Brandon and Barry (Marilyn) from Parksville, B.C.; three granddaughters Cindy (Garry) Renkema, Sheri (Mike) Johnston, Jennifer Metruk; one grandson Craig (Lindsay) Metruk; eight great-grandchildren; his step-daughter from his third marriage Dorothy (Carl) Ballstadt from Dundas, ON; step-grandson Kurt (Christine) Ballstadt; step-grand daughter Marnin Ballstadt and one great-granddaughter. Mike is survived by his sisters Minnie Ryan of Winnipeg, Ruth Gurke of Portage la Prairie and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Cora (Ewachewski) in July 1952, second wife Anna Bella (Lang) in March 1974, his third wife Edith (Brown) in January 2006; his brother Bill (Muriel) Metruk and his sister Ann (George) Henry. The funeral service will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon, Monday, May 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Mike Metruk to the Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre, P.O. Box 62, Ninette, Manitoba ROK 1RO.
