RAMSEY: Ronald Melfort "Mel" Ramsey of Brandon, passed away at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Wednesday, October 2, 2002. Mel was born in Deloraine, Manitoba on January 24, 1934. He attended school in Lauder, Manitoba completing grades 1 through 9 and was unable to complete his education due to economic and social conditions of the time. He did however; further his education through true-life experiences. Much of his knowledge was gained by doing things that others thought impossible. Mel held numerous jobs throughout his life, some of which included: MTS, building mover, mechanic, caretaker and taxi driver. The job that gave him his best reward was that of being a taxi driver because that is how he met his life long companion of 46 years, Stella. His most notable achievement was during a curling game in which he and his team curled the perfect end. However, that was overshadowed by the raising of his four wonderful children. Mel also enjoyed baseball, auto racing and pool. Mel is survived by his loving wife; Stella, children; Jimmy, Brenda (Bruce), and Sandy of Brandon, Blaine (Tasma) of Edmonton, Alberta, and his six grandchildren. He is also survived by his three sisters; Lucille and Maxine, of Edmonton, Lois of Brandon, and brother; Lyle from Forrest. Mel was predeceased by his mother, father and eldest brother, Don. The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 5, 2002 at Memories Chapel. Reverend Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church officiated. Pallbearers were: Mark Johnston, John Feist, Doug Watson and Percy Sims. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Donations in memory of Mel may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 2B7. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330. Memorials
