Obituary

NEILSON: The death of Mavis Neilson occurred at her residence, on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. The Ceremony to Celebrate Mavis' Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Sunday, December 23, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Arlene Robertson of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will follow at a later date in the Newdale Cemetery. Donations in memory of Mavis may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, #304 - 1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4C6. NEILSON: Mavis Irene Neilson suddenly passed away in the city on Wednesday, December 19, 2007. Mavis was born at Shoal Lake, Manitoba on July 1, 1953. She attended Alexandra and Central Elementary, Earl Haig Junior High, Neelin High School and ACC where she completed her nursing. Mavis spent many days at Grandma and Grandpa's farm playing with the animals. She travelled some with her first husband Frank Roy. She divorced from Frank and then spent a good deal of time raising a son on her own until she married Bruce Neilson. Mavis worked as a nurse's aid at Minnedosa Personal Care Home and then at Central Park Lodge in Brandon. She was a housewife for many years until she decided to go back to work for We Care Health Services, now known as New Life Health Services. Mavis was consistently making donations to many charities such as Dreams for Kids, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Leukemia and the Canadian Cancer Society. She always enjoyed feeding and watching birds in the back yard, crossword puzzles and word find. Mavis loved spending time with her dogs and family whenever possible. Mavis is survived by her son Tony (Paula) Roy; grandchildren Austin and Jaden Roy; stepfather Jim Foord; stepdaughter Connie Neilson and family. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce Neilson; mother Eunice Foord; grandmother Dora Bradley; grandfather Reynold Bradley and a sister Janice Sparling. The Ceremony to Celebrate Mavis' Life was held at Memories Chapel, on Sunday, December 23, 2007. Arlene Robertson of First Presbyterian Church officiated.
