With profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of our loving mother, grandma, old
yamma, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend Betty Eastcott.
Mom was the fifth of twelve children born to Mac and Lil Cairns at Pierson MB October 17,
1948. She grew up on the family farm attending school in Tilston MB. From a young age
mom felt privileged and proud to grow up in a large family and often shared stories of the
antics that took place. When sharing stories, mom often included memories of pitching on
the "Cairns all girls" fastball team.
Her early married life to our dad John was spent in Medicine Hat AB raising a young family.
This is where on June 25, 1977, mom's journey of sobriety and regularly attending AA
meetings began. December 1978, with love and support of family and friends we relocated
to Brandon and mom continued her post- secondary education. Brandon is where mom met,
fell in love and December 21, 1985, married the love of her life, Jim (James Eastcott).
Mom spent many years working for Brandon Corrections and the Sheriff's Office before
transitioning to bookkeeping with Jim at Regent Custom Cresting. After Jim's passing
October 8, 2012, mom's retirement was spent pestering everyone at the shop, enjoying
coffee/ lunch dates and travelling to visit family and friends.
