Mary Viola MacKay (nee Davidson), formerly of Rounthwaite, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2001, at Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba at the age of 95. Mary was born on June 16, 1905 at Rounthwaite, Manitoba on the family farm. She married George MacKay in 1934 and for 39 years they farmed on the MacKay homestead in the Rounthwaite district before retiring to Brandon in 1973. Together they raised three children. She sewed, knitted, crocheted and quilted as well as tending to her garden and flowers. She was very musical and enjoyed playing the piano and organ, singing at church and community functions. She also loved to listen and dance to Scottish music, especially the Highland Fling, which she could still do in her 80's. Mary was involved in the W.M.S./U.C.W. and was honoured by being named a "life member". Mary is survived by her son, Hugh (Joan) MacKay of Nesbitt, Manitoba; daughters, Marilyn (Arnold) Grambo of Brandon and Sheila (Percy) Marten of Headingley. Also surviving are grandchildren, Shannon (Jerry) Stewart of Brandon, Allan MacKay of Brandon, Glen (Becky) Grambo of Warman, Saskatchewan, Colin (Diane) Grambo of Killarney, Manitoba, Nicole (Rolf Pippert) Grambo of Flin Flon, Manitoba, Paul Grambo of Brandon, Gavin Shipley, Chris Shipley and Shawn Marten all of Winnipeg. Great grandchildren surviving are: Randelle Stewart, Anthony Kaschor, Kimberley Kaschor and Caeley Pippert; sisters, Alice Granger of Souris, Jean Mann of Trail, British Columbia and Ann Davidson of Brandon, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, George (in 1953) and Myrtle (in 1964) Davidson of Rounthwaite, her husband, George MacKay in 1986, brother, Clifford Davidson in 1972 and sister, Margaret Medd in 1988. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, February 16, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Memories Chapel, Brandon, Manitoba. Mary's grandson, Rev. Colin Grambo officiated. Special music was sung by grandchildren: Shannon Stewart, Nicole, Colin and Paul Grambo. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Glen, Colin and Paul Grambo, Gavin and Chris Shipley, Allan MacKay, Shannon Stewart and Nicole Grambo.
