FUNK: With her family by her side, Mary Funk passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Mary was born May 20, 1916 in Plum Coulee, Manitoba to Peter and Helena (Giesbrecht) Heinrichs. Her happy childhood was spent helping her dad on the farm, as she loved outside work. She was very athletic and participated in many sports. Her favorite activities included anything to do with horses, running, playing games and doing crafts. On December 18, 1937, she married Abe Funk and together they raised their seven children with much love. The family spent many years farming, first on the homestead at Hordean and then at Manitou and Alexander districts, until settling permanently in Brandon in 1958. Following Abe? premature death in 1973, Mary worked at the Evangel Book Store until her retirement. After retirement she spent many hours in volunteer work. Mary faced life? difficulties with courage and unwavering trust in God? faithfulness. Her greatest gift to her family remains her heritage of faith. Mary was happiest when surrounded by her family, and was committed to praying for each one. Mary was predeceased by her parents, two step-mothers, husband Abe, infant son Abe, son-in law Larry Hansen, sister Margaret Groening and brother-in-law Frank Klassen. Reunited at last with her beloved husband, Mary will be greatly missed by her seven children Abe (Marian) Funk, Esther Hansen, Ruth (Bill) Eisler, Merrilyn (Lloyd) Leblanc, Betty-Mae (Blayne) Greiner, Vern (Janice) Funk, Ron (Colleen) Funk, 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The celebration of Mary? life was held on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church, preceded by internment at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
