NORTHCUT: Martha Jean Northcut (nee Harris), of Brandon, beloved wife of Garnet, passed away February 24, 2000 at the age of 74 years. She leaves to mourn 4 children: Ford (Wendy) of Boise, Idaho, USA; Daryl of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Luana (Wayne) of Langham, Saskatchewan; and Annadee (Rik) of Calgary, Alberta; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 sister of Edmonton, Alberta; 1 brother of Madison, Wisconsin, USA and numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was predeceased by her parents, John James and Florence Amelia Harris; a sister-in-law; and one nephew. Martha was born in New York State, July 26, 1925 and spent most of her youth in Maryfield, Saskatchewan. She completed high school in Maryfield; secretarial courses in Regina and Winnipeg, and graduated from Queens University in 1948. Garnet and Martha were married October 16, 1948. Martha was a devoted housewife and a caring help mate in all endeavors. She enjoyed nature, was an avid bird lover, and had a keen interest in gardening and baking. Martha also dedicated many hours to the Brandon Festival of the Arts. The funeral service was held at Memories Chapel on February 28, 2000 with the Rev. Margret Kristjansson of Wawanesa officiating. She was laid to rest at the Brandon Hills Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Martha to the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Society of Manitoba, N108 North Pavillion, Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
The family is grateful and thankful to those health care professionals who remain compassionate amid daily suffering; in particular Dr. Smit, Dr. Wilken and Nurses of Palliative Care, Assiniboine Centre. Special thanks are also extended to friends of the family whose support is appreciated.
