KITCHEN: The death of Martha Jean Mae Arbour Kitchen (nee Brown) occurred at her residence, Fairview Home, on Saturday, June 4, 2005. Jean was born to Bill and Helen Brown in Rossburn, Manitoba on September 3, 1922. She was the fourth of six children. At the age of 17, Jean moved to Brandon and worked several jobs, which included working as a Nanny, working at Pool Packers, and working at Speekmans Confectionery. In 1945, while working at Speekman's she met George Kitchen and they were wed in 1947. They had two children, Bill and Murray. Jean was a very thoughtful, humorous, caring person that loved to, smile and laugh and visit with friends and family. She remained a stay at home mom until her boy's were in there teens, then she went back to work for several years at the Brandon General Hospital and Pioneer Electric. During this time she also did volunteer work at the Brandon Mental Health Centre. Her enjoyments in life revolved mainly around family. She loved to cook, sew, knit, play pool, swim and do crossword puzzles. But her greatest enjoyment was visiting with friends and family. In their retirement years, practically every day involved going for a drive in the country, stopping at a restaurant somewhere and having lunch with a dessert of course, going on from there to visit a brother or sister in Rivers, Erickson, Rossburn, Alexander or her sister Sarah in Brandon. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Bill Kitchen and Murray (Sherry) Kitchen. She was predeceased by her husband, George Kitchen; parents, Bill and Helen Kitchen; brothers, Robert, Wilfred, and Elmer Kitchen; sisters, Chrissy Robinson and Sarah Phinney. The Graveside Ceremony will be held at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens Columbarium on Friday, June 10, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Flowers are gratefully declined.
