Marston Welland Grindey, surrounded by family at the age of 80, passed into the Lord's presence on January 29, 2025.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Marnie Fyfe; children Brian (Chrissy), Kevin (Michele), Paul, and Laurel; grandchildren Allie, Anna, Ruth, Edith, Abby, Elissa, Mary, Leif, Ireland, Fallon, Autumn, and Lauryn. He is also lovingly remembered by extended family members Andrew (Ashley), Kevin (Liz), Becki (Kelvin), and Lana (Devon); grandchildren James, Violet, Lucy, Ani, Kayleigh, Jamie, Randi, Dylan, Kobe, Bailey, and Nevaeh. Marston will be greatly missed by his brother Mark (Shirley); nieces Melanie, Deborah (Nick), and Kelsey (Mike) and their families; his first wife and mother of his children Sharon; Marnie's sisters Louise and Val (Ed); cousins, nieces and nephews and many close friends. He was predeceased by his brother Trevor (1943), father George (1980) mother Lavina (2004), and second wife Rona (2006).

Marston was born in Winnipeg and grew up in the neighbourhood of St. James and later his family moved out to Grosse Isle, Manitoba. He played football for the St. James Jimmies and worked various jobs through his early years, including road construction and at Standard Aero Engines, where his father was employed. Through hard work and determination, he earned money to put himself through United College (now the University of Winnipeg).

Marston was a valued and dedicated employee with the Province of Manitoba for 40 years. He began his career as a social worker in Dauphin, then lived and worked in the communities of Swan River, Dauphin, Brandon, and lastly Selkirk as a probation officer while obtaining his Masters of Social Work. He later served as Executive Director of Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, Western Regional Operations in Brandon, and Executive Director of Regional Courts, Courts Division, Manitoba Justice, in Brandon before retiring in 2006.
Marston shared meaningful chapters of his life with Sharon, with whom he spent 24 years, and Rona, who was his wife until her passing. In his later years, he found love and companionship with Marnie, his devoted and caring wife. Each of them held a special place in his heart, shaping his journey and contributing to the large, blended family he cherished. After many years of calling Brandon and George Lake home, Marston and Marnie moved back to Winnipeg in 2020 to be closer to family and play a more active role in the lives of their younger grandchildren.

Marston was patient, kind, and had a genuine interest in all those who came into his life. He had a great sense of humour and was a blessing to all who knew him. He cherished time with family and friends and had a deep love for music, often pulling out his violin or harmonica to share his passion—especially with his family, who listened in awe. He was an avid photographer and outdoor enthusiast, he found joy in camping, kayaking, canoeing, and going for walks. Marston had a deep love for animals, and his dogs—Terry, Zack, Digger and Scout—held a special place in his heart. His bond with them reflected his kind and gentle nature. A passionate football fan, Marston took great joy in cheering for his favourite teams—the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Brandon Vincent Massey Vikings.

Marston will be remembered for his strong work ethic and the respect he earned in his profession and among colleagues. Marston was deeply involved in every community he lived in and took an active role in his children's activities, whether coaching the Brandon Blue Fins swim team, coaching soccer, or serving as a scout leader. He also held leadership roles as a board member and president of various organizations. Marston contributed extensively to the community through his volunteer work with the YMCA, Onoshowewin, the Law Society of Manitoba, and the John Howard Society of Brandon. Additionally, he was a dedicated photographer for the Vincent Massey Vikings football organization. Above all, Marston will be remembered as a loving father to his children.

The family extends deepest appreciation to the medical staff at CancerCare Manitoba, Riverview Health Centre (palliative care), and Grace Hospice (palliative care), as well as friends and family for their gracious care and support over the past many months.

Please join us for a Celebration of Marston's Life at Memories Chapel 330-18th Street North Brandon, MB on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. with Father Jarod Driscoll officiating. Interment will precede the celebration for immediate family at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
