Mark Jones
April 2, 1952 – October 20, 2025

With heavy hearts, we share that Richard "Mark" Jones, 73 years, son of the late Richard and Edith Jones left us for a new journey October 20, 2025.

Mark leaves behind partner Katharine McKinnon.
Sister Gwen, husband Wayne Drul.
Niece Jennifer (Fancy Face), husband Kirk Saban, and children Keira, Justin, and Makenna
Nephew Collin (Mongo) Drul, wife Lesia, and children Landon and Colton
Nephew Braden (Bufe) Drul, wife Misty, and children Adilynn and Clayton
And numerous cousins

Mark was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, coming in as a feather weight, weighing 4 lbs. 12 oz. at 1:30 AM, April 2,1952.
His family resided in Cypress River until 1967 when the family moved to Brandon.
Mark's education was completed after a couple of years in grade 12 at Neelin High School, followed by a year at Brandon University for the "experience" and onto Assiniboine Community College, completing a drafting course.
The drafting course lead to his career with the department of highways, starting on a survey crew leading up to becoming a road design engineer computer programmer for 30+ years retiring in 2011.

Mark and Kate met in 1974, residing in many places, including a second floor apartment on 7th Street, purchasing a house on 5th Street, and finally a beautiful acreage east of Brandon in 1993, where they have since resided.

As a youngster, Mark had an interest in raising bantam chickens, which once on the acreage changed to raising pheasants and partridges due to his interest in hunting with his German shorthair pointer, "O.B."
That led to competing in field tests in Canada and USA and becoming a Canadian Kennel Club field dog rep and judge.

Being an avid outdoorsman, waterfowl/upland bird and big game hunts were always planned... along with canoe trips for fishing, ski trips to Europe, Western Canada and USA, with friends and family.

Horses were another passion started at a young age with pony competitions attending local small fairs with his father Dick. Once on the acreage, Appaloosas became the horse of choice, leading to training and many trail rides.

Amongst all these interests, he found time to motocross, golf, be involved with Big Brothers and Sisters and attend numerous Grey Cup events, warm sunny vacations, and Jones/Reid family reunions.

Mark and Kate attended many rock concerts and he always said, "I may be old, but I saw all the cool bands!"

When being greeted by friends with the usual how are you…only one answer was ever given: "Damn Near Perfect!"

Celebrations will be held at later dates with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer society or Heart and Stroke Foundation

The Song is ended, but the melody lingers on…
