POWERS: Marion Elizabeth Powers passed away at her residence, Central Park Lodge, on January 10, 2000, at the age of 87. Marion was born in the R.M. of Oakland on May 28, 1912 the eldest of seven children from the late William and Bessie Cameron. She resided with her parents in Nesbitt and received her formal education there. At a very early age she began taking piano lessons, and this became her lifetime occupation. This led to teaching students piano in Nesbitt, Carroll, Souris, and Brandon over the past forty years. In 1931 Marion married Campbell W. Powers, and they farmed in the Nesbitt district. They were blessed with a family of three boys and a daughter. Marion was a devoted wife and mother. She was very supportive of all activities in which her children were involved. Marion was very active in the Nesbitt United Church, as an organist and a member of the U.C.W. In 1965, Campbell and Marion retired and moved to Brandon, where Marion became actively involved in Knox United Church as both a member and a pianist for the Sunday School. She also gave graciously of her time volunteering at various senior homes in the city. Nan was also an avid supporter of her grandchildren's varied activities, throughout their school years, which included sports, music and drama. Marion is survived by sons, Irv (Audrey) and Ron (Maxine); daughter Donna Orr; as well as six grandchildren: Jarrett (Sandy), Jason, Lisa and Keri Powers; Kimberley Orr, and Sherrill-Lee (Bob) Hyra; and great-grandson Carter Hyra. Sisters: Jean Wallace and Margaret (Doug) Simpson; brother Jim Cameron; sisters-in-law: Gladys, Marge and Gladie Cameron; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Marion was predeceased by her husband Cam in 1991 and infant son Kenneth; brothers: Mac, Doug and Rollie Cameron; sister-in-law Jean Cameron and brother-in-law Bev Wallace. The Ceremony to Celebrate Marion's Life was held at Memories Chapel on Thursday, January 13, 2000. Lydia Glawson of Knox United Church officiated. Interment followed in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Urn Bearers were granddaughters Lisa and Keri Powers. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
