SMITH: Marie Louise (Duguid) Smith passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 7, 2003 in Brandon, MB. Marie was born November 15, 1934 in Brandon to Louise and Charles Duguid. She lived many years in Red Deer and Saskatoon and returned to Brandon to be closer to her family in 1996. Marie has left to cherish her memory, the best part of her life, her daughter Colleen and favorite son-in-law, Darrell Skrypnyk, her granddaughter Suzanne, all of Brandon and her bonus grandchildren, Adam and Laura Skrypnyk of Regina, SK. She also leaves behind her brothers David (Monique) Duguid of Abbottsford, BC, Charles (Pat) Duguid, sister-in-law Joan Duguid, all of Brandon, as well as nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by her father in 1974 and mother in 1988, her husband, Doug in 1996, her grandson Curtis and her brother Robert Dugiud in 2000. In earlier years Marie worked in the office for Pool Packers in Brandon and later on became Comptroller of CKRD Radio & TV in Red Deer. After her marriage to Doug in 1975 they moved to Saskatoon where she remained until returning to Brandon. Marie will always be remembered as the lady who could strike up conversation with anyone. There was never a dull moment when Marie was around. She was notorious for remembering everything from "way back when" and loved to share these stories! Her favorite day of the week was Thursday afternoons, bowling with the Maple Leaf Ladies at Recreation Lanes where she served as Secretary and Treasurer. Health issues arose and Marie had to retire from bowling, but had plans to return in the fall. However, her health took a turn for the worst and we now take comfort in knowing her struggles are over. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Tuesday, June 10, 2003 from 8:30 pm. to 9:30 pm. The Ceremony to Celebrate Marie's life will be held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 1:00 pm. Rev. Dale Woods of First Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will take place in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined.
