McDONALD: Marie McDonald (nee Polny), age 84 years, passed away in the city on Saturday, June 25, 2005. Marie was the widow of the late Angus Neil "Gus" McDonald. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2005. Announcement of service details and complete obituary information will follow. McDONALD: Marie McDonald (nee Polny), widow of the late Angus Neil "Gus" McDonald, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2005 in the city of Brandon at the age of 84 years. Marie was born at Nokomis, Saskatchewan on April 16, 1921 the daughter of John and Frances Polny. Her family moved to a farm in the Kelliher, Saskatchewan District where she grew up, the third oldest of six children. She attended Doverley School, which was located approximately two and a half miles from the farm. Marie moved to the Brandon area in the early 1940's working for the Aaron and Marion Hargreaves family in the Brandon Hills. Eventually she moved to Brandon working at Yaeger's Furs. Marie had many talents ranging from knitting, crocheting, sewing, making delicious meals, canning, gardening and growing flowers. She enjoyed going to dances, bingos at the Royal Canadian Legion, keeping up with current events, and doing the Cryptoquote puzzle from the newspaper. Marie looked forward to getting together with family and really enjoyed her grandchildren. Her travels took her from the Pacific to the Atlantic coasts, to Alaska, the northern states and Europe. She was a member of Central United Church. Marie married Gus on October 22, 1955 and they raised two sons, Robert and Lorne. Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angus on February 12, 2005; her father, John Polny Sr. in 1938 and her mother, Francis Polny (nee Metz) in 1964; brothers, Oscar of Leross, SK in 2001 and John of Saskatoon, SK in 2000; sister, Lula Schlichenmayer of Surrey, BC in 1996; father and mother-in-law William McDonald in 1961 and Katherine McDonald (nee McDonald) in 1982. She was also predeceased by her brothers-in-law Adolph Schlichenmayer of Surrey, BC in 2000, Wallace "Mac" McDonald of Saskatoon, SK on March 31, 2005; and Glen McDonald of Rivers, MB in 1970; and sister-in-law, Helen Polny of Chilliwack, BC in 2000. Marie will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Robert of Brandon and Lorne (Shirley); granddaughters, Maeghan, Jenna and Shannon of Brandon; sister, Cecelia Polny of Regina, SK; brother, Henry Polny of Chilliwack, BC; sisters-in-law, Helen Polny of Saskatoon, SK, Bernice McDonald of Rivers, MB; brothers-in-law, Alex (Marg) of Calgary, AB, Jack (Peggy) of Winnipeg and Lloyd (Eleanor) of Brandon; as well as many nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, on Sunday, July 10, 2005 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Memories Chapel on Monday, July 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church will officiate. Eulogy will be given by niece, Mayvis MacLellan. Pallbearers will be: Thomas McDonald, William McDonald, John MacLellan, Jim Fortune, Edward Bull and Phillip Bull. Interment will follow in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined.
