Obituary

DETTRICH: The death of Marianne Lilian Dettrich of Brandon occurred at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, with her daughters and cousin Alvin at her side, on Friday, June 3, 2005. Marianne was born in Winnipeg on October 9, 1938, daughter of Philip and Anne Gower. Her early years were spent in Winnipeg and on October 16, 1956, she married H. Earl Dettrich of the Royal Canadian Artillery. Marianne resided in Germany a number of times during her husband's tour of duty with the Armed Forces. She had been a resident of Brandon for many years. Marianne completed her Business Administration Course at Assiniboine Community College. While in Brandon, she was employed with Woolco Department Stores and later, Walmart. She was a member of the "Silver Links" Group of retired Walmart employees. Marianne was also an active member of the Girl Guides from 1974 to 1985 and was a regular attendee at the Thursday night Bingo at the Royal Canadian Legion. She was a gardening enthusiast, growing and maintaining roses. The family owned a cottage, built by her grandfather, at Grand Beach. The special times spent at the cottage with her family were deeply cherished by herself and family members. Marianne is survived by: her husband, Earl; daughters, Sandra and husband Lachlan Macfadden of Drumheller, AB, and their children, Ewan Macfadden and Hadyn Macfadden and by daughter, Tammy Dettrich of Kingston, ON, and Tammy's son, A.J. Benson. She also leaves two brothers, Philip Gower and Charlie Gower and cousin, Alvin Moody, and aunts and uncles Lil and Ernie Giroux and Art and Ethel Calow. Marianne was predeceased by her father, Major Philip Gower; mother, Anne Gower; and sister Diane. A time of visitation and fellowship was held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Sunday, June 5, 2005. Flowers are gratefully declined.
