Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Grubesic who left us peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Maria was born on January 8, 1935, in Baiano, Italy. As a small child, she lived through the Second World War and remembered hiding in the countryside at night to escape the Allied bombings.
Maria began working at the young age of 14, alongside her sister in a tomato canning factory. In 1960, she emigrated to Canada with her husband and their oldest daughter.

In Brandon, Maria worked at Woolen Mills before spending nearly 25 years with McKenzie Seeds.
Maria's greatest pride and joy were her five children, eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She loved cheering them on at school concerts, sporting events, and special occasions. She had weekly pasta night, where she lovingly cooked and gathered her family around the table. She was an avid reader and talented knitter and enjoyed knitting mitts for her family.

Maria will be lovingly remembered by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren Annette Sipos (Angela, Jordan); John (Cindy) Grubesic, (Ryan & Rain – Ava, Elise, Aiden,
Kyle & Samar – Nicholas, Sophia); Sue (Don) Matthews, (Alyssa & Tyler – Elliot, Lilianna, Brayden & Randie – Kacie); Lisa Grubesic; and Laura (Mark) Bowley, (Hunter, Madison).

A private graveside will take place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.

Donations in memory of Maria may be made to a charity of choice.
