Margaret (Peggy) Sharon Louise Schmidt
In the early morning of June 14th, 2016, Peggy passed away at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba as a result of complications after having by-pass heart surgery. She was 61 years old. Peggy was born in the town of Erickson, Manitoba on September 20th, 1954. She was the fourth child of Margaret Adelia (Della) and John Alfred Nylen.
Following High School, Peggy obtained her diploma in Psychiatric Nursing from Selkirk Mental Health Centre. It was there she made many close friendships that continued over the next 42 years. Peggy loved her work and brought compassion and sensitivity to the people she worked with.
Peggy loved being active as demonstrated by her numerous sport-related injuries. She loved to ride her bike, downhill and cross-country ski. She cherished the time with family and friends while camping, travelling, and talking on the phone for hours (she never knew how to say good bye). One of her favorite past-times was spending time with her grandsons and sharing the stories of their adventures. She greeted everyone with her trademark; the most infectious, genuine smile that would make you feel special the moment you saw it.
Peggy is survived by husband Les, daughter Lesley, son-in-law Ruben, grandsons Declan and Teryck, brother Ted, sister Gail (Jim), and nephews Colin (Vicki) and Sean (Kim). She was predeceased by her parents Della and John Nylen and brother Gary.
A celebration of life service in memory of Peggy will be held on Monday, June 20th, at 1:00p.m., at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, Brandon, with Pastor Dan Pope officiating.
We would like to say a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and other support staff in the Intensive Care Cardiac Sciences floor at St. Boniface Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion.
