Margaret was born on January 4, 1923 in Bathgate, Scotland the daughter of John and Margaret Anderson. She worked as a swimming instructor at the "Baths" for sometime and she also helped out in the war effort during WW II. It was during this time that she met her future husband, a member of the Canadian Forces, George Paton of Tilston, Manitoba. George and Margaret were married overseas on March 23, 1946. Margaret came to Canada as a war bride and wondered what she had gotten herself into when she saw the prairies. However, she soon came to enjoy it here and supported her family in their endeavors. They had two children, Diane-born December 23, 1946 and David-born February 18, 1950. They farmed for several years at Tilston and Elva before moving to Melita where George was employed at the grain elevator. From there they went to Beausejour to another elevator before moving to Elkhorn. While in Elkhorn, Margaret was a member of the Order of the Royal Purple and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary as well as helping out at many community events. They moved to Brandon in 1969, and Margaret was employed at the lunch counter at Eaton's for a time. She and George spent many evenings watching the Wheat Kings and also taking in many other events in the city. Margaret was predeceased by: her husband of 54 years, George; parents, John and Margaret Anderson; brothers, John and Alex; sisters-in-law, Belle Udell and Jean Fenton; brothers-in-law, Doug Udell and Tom Fenton; niece, Kathy Paton and nephew, Ken Southward.
