MAGILL, Margaret Aurelia: It is with great sadness that her family announces Margaret's passing on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at her home in the Lions Manor. Margaret was predeceased by: her husband Bert; parents August and Emelia Nickel; brother Ron; and sisters Edith and Alma. She will be lovingly missed by: her sons Wayne and wife Linda (Michael and Stephen), Greg and wife Barb (Alicia and Tyler); three sisters, Dorothy, Ethel and Audrey (Elden); sister-in-law Edna (Jim), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Margaret was born on the family farm in Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan on March 27, 1922 and was the third youngest of a sibling group of seven (six girls, one boy). The family moved to Trossachs, Saskatchewan when she was 15 to continue farming. At 17 she began nurses training at the Weyburn Psychiatric Institute, moving a year later to Regina where she worked the next six years at the Regina General Hospital. At the age of 24 she moved to Brandon and worked at the YMCA kitchen. During this time she had her first son Wayne. Marg worked for Perths dry cleaners for 2 years before she met and married Albert on February 25, 1956 and moved to the family dairy farm in the Chater area. Her son Greg was born in 1956. In 1962 Margaret began her employment as a nurses aid for the Brandon Mental Health Centre, where she was fondly known as Maggie. She was an active member in the fight for equal wages for nurses assistants. She retired in March of 1987 after 25 years of service. Following the death of Bert she remained on the family farm until relocating to Oddfellows Corner in Brandon in 1991. In 1992 she moved to the Lions Manor where she resided for ten years. A celebration of Marg's life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Sunday, February 23, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined.
