Obituary

HUNTINGHAWK: On Friday, December 29, 2006, with family by her side, after a very brave battle with illness, Margaret Huntinghawk (nee Patrick) left us to begin a journey into the spirit world. Margaret is survived by: her loving children, Richard (Debbie), Elvin (Cheryl), Anne Huntinghawk, Cindy Terpstra, Helen Huntinghawk (Henry), Darcy Huntinghawk, Candace Huntinghawk, and Angela Huntinghawk (Daniel). She also leaves thirty grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; two brothers, Alec Contois and Cliff Patrick; sisters, Gertrude Patrick (John Meeches) and Edna (Glen) Stevenson. Margaret was predeceased by: her husband, Fred Huntinghawk; parents, William and Annie Patrick and two sons, Victor and Carl. Brothers, Victor, Joe and George and sister, Mary Rose, also predeceased her. Margaret lived with her husband Fred, at Rolling River First Nations, raising their children and following a traditional lifestyle. She helped earn money skinning the beavers, muskrats and minks. Margaret would often work along side Fred as farm labourers and were well known in the farming communities around Erickson and Basswood. Winters would find her helping Fred cut and stack cordwood, which they would sell. After Fred's death in 1983, she continued to raise and support four children still at home on Rolling River. She held such jobs as, medical van driver, water truck driver, and worked many summers at different Clear Lake resorts preparing rooms. Margaret was an excellent cook and used her skills preparing meals for visitors from around the world at the "Lake Kathrine" Native Theme Village while it was still operating. She provided foster care for her grandchildren whom she dearly cherished. Margaret loved to play bingo and always enjoyed a good cup of coffee. A visit from family or friends always made her day. Though not ready to leave but accepted her fate with courage and dignity, we were proud to call you "Mom". A traditional wake and feast was held at Southquill Hall, Rolling River First Nation on Monday, January 1, 2007. She was laid to rest on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, North Cemetery, Rolling River. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
