MARGARET JANICE COCHRANE (nee SILLS)
After a courageous battle with breast cancer, Margaret passed away at the Assiniboine Centre on February 8, 2003 surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Florence Sills. Margaret is survived by her loving partner and companion of 38 years, Barrie; daughter Dayna (Dean) Weiten, son David (Jennifer); grandchildren Eric Weiten, Drew, Matthew and Emily Cochrane, sister Maureen Johnson and her three daughters, brothers-in-law Murray (Jean) Cochrane and family and Neil (Betty) Cochrane and family. She is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Margaret was born on February 11, 1945 in Virden, Manitoba. She excelled in her schooling in Kenton and took her lab technologist training in Brandon. Margaret and Barrie were married in Brandon on November 7, 1964. The early years of raising their family involved frequent moves before relocating to Brandon in 1972. She was very involved with her children's activities and the Brandon Schools Band Association. As the family grew she returned to work, primarily at the Western Medical Clinic. Margaret and Barrie moved permanently to their second home, the Cochrane family farm, in 1995. Margaret enjoyed quilting, needlepoint and reading. She was active in the Southwest Branch of the Manitoba Genealogy Society and has left a legacy of an extensively researched family tree. Her large garden, beautiful yard and flowerbeds at the farm were a labour of love. Funeral service, officiated by Pam Dean, was held on February 12, 2003 at Memories Chapel. Interment was at Tarbolton Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kyle Cochrane, Ken Moore, Keith Privat, Larry Sage, David Wedderburn, and Reed Wolfe. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7, Canadian Diabetes Association, Westman Region, B727- 10th St., Brandon, MB, R7A 4G7, or a charity of one's choice. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
