On Sunday, February 21, 1999, Mr. Lynn Wilkinson of Brandon MB, passed away quietly in his sleep at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon, after a two year battle with cancer. Lynn was born on November 30, 1941 at Ladysmith, BC and attended school in Ladysmith and Nanaimo, BC. After marrying his wife Darlene (Johnston) in 1967, he lived for a time in Delta, BC, before their family relocated to Oak Lake, MB, where he was part of the management team of Specialized Soil Products. Following a later move to Brandon, Lynn worked for the City of Brandon. As a member of the Oak Lake and Knox United Churches, Lynn was active in church life and his commitments included Pastoral Call and Pastoral Relations committees. During the years when his family were young, Lynn was a charter member of the Oak Lake Lions Club, served as a Cubs leader and logged many miles to hockey, ringette and ball games. In recent years, he has served as chairperson of both Helping Hands Soup Kitchen and the Westman Traditional Christmas Dinnner. He was a member of the A.N.A.F. and a recent passion was lawn bowling. He was current chairperson of the Rideau Lawn Bowling Club. Lynn is survived by his wife Darlene, son Jeremy (finace' Stacey McClelland); daughters, Krista, Carmen (granddaughter Courteney) and Renee (fiance' Blair Fitzpatrick). He leaves his sister, Carol Straw (Fred) of Penticton, BC and nieces; Shannon Straw of Penticton, Jenny Mills (Cam) and family of Burlington,ON as well as Darlene's mother, Berenice Johnston and family, Dennis (Dawn-Marie), Dawn and Dale (Wendy) all of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Clara Wilkinson and a sister, Midge Franksen. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held at Trinity United Church on Wednesday, February 24, 1999 with Rev. John Nesbitt officiating, assisted by Rev. Harvey Hurren.
