Obituary

ROBINSON: Lyall R., beloved husband of Evelyn of Brandon, passed away peacefully into eternal rest with his family at his side on June 5, 2000 at the Assiniboine Centre, Brandon following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Lyall was born April 23, 1909 in the District of Dry River near Pilot Mound. He was an ardent sports fan, enjoyed playing hockey and baseball and was catcher for the Brandon YMCA All-Star Team. He started a very successful trucking business in the early 1930's and continued until 1942. Lyall married Evelyn Spearman of Crystal City on June 12, 1941 and they would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on June 12. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters Gail and Donna. Lyall served in the R.C.A.F. from 1942 to 1945 and on discharge was employed at Doig's Store in Brandon for many years. He was a member of the United Church and both Lyall and Evelyn held a life membership in the Brandon Musician's Association. Lyall had a special love for music and played in five dance bands over the years, sometimes with his brother Fred - namely "The Robinson Deleurme Band; Greenway Night Hawks; Belmont Harmony Five; Royal Canadians; and The Syncopators". Lyall and Evelyn enjoyed playing with the Royal Canadians for several years, then organized the Syncopators in 1952. They provided enjoyable dance music throughout southern Manitoba including Sportsman's Park, Clear Lake, Brandon and Winnipeg. Their daughter Gail married Vern Henry in 1965 and together they had 2 children, a daughter Kirsten (Darren Janke); and a son Kristofer (Ange Manness) and their son Tyler. Donna married Ken Vidalin in 1966. They had one son, Charles Fredrik (Pam Klimosko) and their daughter Quinn. Gail passed away in 1992. Donna passed away in 1999. The ceremony to celebrate Lyall's life was held at Central United Church, Brandon on Friday, June 9, 2000. Rev. Gordon Stevenson officiated. A private family interment was held in the Brandon Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Lyall may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415 - 1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8. Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
