Obituary

MEDD: The death of Cavell Medd, widow of Gordon Medd, occurred at her residence, Hillcrest Place on Saturday, August 11, 2001. Cavell Medd was born at Forrest, Manitoba on January 20, 1917, the youngest daughter of Jessie Ann and Robert Arnold Hamlen. She lived at Forrest, attending Turiff School and completed her Grade 12 at the Brandon Collegiate. Cavell received her A.T.C.M. Degree in Piano, from the Brandon University School of Music and taught music for a number of years. She married Gordon Medd on September 27, 1941. She and Gordon moved to their farm two miles south of Brandon and farmed there until 1978. While there, Cavell worked part time as a bookkeeper at the Co-op Store and for a time at Burgess Solo Store. Cavell had many hobbies. She was an active member of her community, quilting with the Brandon Hills Busy Bees, knitting for the Red Cross Society, organist and choir member at First Baptist Church. She was also involved with all church activities including bowling with the Baptist League. She also curled with the Silver Belles. Cavell leaves to mourn her niece, Karen Pointer and daughters, Christina Pointer, Michelle Roberts husband Glen and son Hunter; nephew, Jack Gray, his sons, Derrick Gray Jason Gray and wife Robyn and their son Jayden; brother-in-law Harold Medd; nephews Bill Medd (Chris), Harold Jr. (Wendy), Jack Medd (Phylis) and niece Francis Berazowski (Dwayne); and special cousin Keith Burnside (Mae) and family. She also leaves special friends; Glen and Karen Nicol and son Kevin. Cavell was predeceased by: her parents, her husband Gordon on December 30, 1994, a sister Muriel Gray, October 30, 1971, brother-in-law, Doug Gray, August 6, 1986. Cavell was also predeceased by her brother-in-law, Art Medd and by sisters-in-law Gladys, Ethel and Jean Medd. The Ceremony to Celebrate Cavell's Life was held at Memories Chapel, 330 - 18th Street North on Tuesday, August 14, 2001 at 1:00 pm. The Rev. Orton Anderson officiated. Pallbearers were: Jason Gray, Derrick Gray, Bill Medd, Harold Medd Jr., Glen Nicol and Kevin Nicol. Interment followed in the Brandon Cemetery. Friends who wish may make a donation in memory of Cavell to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 203 - 42 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, R7A 2B2 or to a charity of choice.
