Oak River Indian Reserve now known as Sioux Valley Dakota Nation. He was
the son of Stanley Mckay and the late Irene Dowan. Lorne was a born again

Lorne worked hard all his life mainly in the area of agriculture, places he worked included Sekeine at Ozowakwyan near Rivers Manitoba, Lauder MB, Kola MB, and Sioux Valley. He gained respect and made friends everywhere he worked. Lorne loved gardening and took pride in his yard work maintaining 2 huge gardens and flowers. As a child he loved to play hockey, he and his brother Crawford were the only native players on a provincial team in the 1960's. In the early 1980's he played first base on the family softball team known as Mckay Club. In
the early 1990's Lorne completed a Small Engine Repairs course. Lorne also
attended the BUNTEP Program located in Sioux Valley to become a teacher,
while attending he was well respected by professors and classmates, often
looked to for guidance with the Dakota Language. Lorne loved to travel and did so with his longtime friend Dave Pashe, trips included areas of Canada and the Unites States. Dave describes his friend Lorne as being a "book work" as he loved to read and they would often swap reading material. Lorne's humor and general kindness won over the hearts of many throughout his years with us. Lorne will be sadly missed by his only child Jenifer (Hilton), grandson Dimitri, his father Stan and siblings: Olive, Crawford (Marilyn), Ella (Victor), Earl, Millie (Dave), Tannis (Greg), Holly (Laverne), Kim, Carol, Kennedy (Heather), Deitrich (Wendy), and Pierre.
