Obituary

LESLIE: Lois Rosalind (nee Russell) passed away Thursday, August 4, 2011 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 71 years. Mom will be sadly missed by: her husband of 34 years Torrence "Buck" Byers; sons, Dan (Debbie), Terry (Angela Angell) and daughter Linda (Bob) Thomson; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mom, through her partner, Buck also had an extended family of Buck's 5 children, their spouses and many more grand and great-grandchildren. Mom was born in Brandon, Manitoba on July 7, 1940 to parents Ernest and Elsie Russell. Mom had 6 sisters, 1 brother and 1 step-brother. Mom lived in various locations during her life - Estevan, SK; Red Deer, AB; and MacGregor, MB. It was always Mom's plan to come back home to Brandon and she and Buck did so in 1995. Over the years Mom worked at a variety of locations - Bing Juke's Drive-In, One and Ten Motel, Woolco and in the Utility Department at City Hall in Red Deer. She and Buck also had the opportunity to try their hand with "farming" while living in MacGregor. Mom enjoyed her dog, the cats and the baby calves and lambs. Mom was a great baseball player and her swimming skills were put to good use as a lifeguard in her younger years. She enjoyed 5-pin bowling and she and Buck did this for many years. She was a Big Sister and volunteered for several years with the Special Olympics. She was also the Treasurer for the Metis Elder's Bingos here in Brandon. We would like to thank Dr. Gray and all the staff at the Emergency Department at the B.R.H.C. for their kindness and care shown to Mom and supportive understanding shown to us. Interment will take place on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium (southeast corner) at Noon (12 o'clock). A time of fellowship for friends and family will take place at the Central United Church Auditorium, 327 - 8th Street at 1:00 p.m. If folks wish, donations in Mom's memory can be made to the Special Olympics of Manitoba, 304 - 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3B-2Z6 or to a charity of their choice.
