Lloyd Vernon Shantz, beloved husband of Marlene, passed away on August 3, 2002 at Fairview Personal Care Home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer Disease. Vernon was born on April 1, 1938 at Guernsey, Saskatchewan, son of Floyd and Violet Shantz. The family moved to Brandon in 1949 and Vern attended school at Central, Grand Valley, Earl Haig and the Brandon Collegiate Institute. Vern began his automotive mechanic career with Binkley Motors, was there for ten years and then spent twenty-seven years with Brandon Chrysler Dodge. He loved his time with the children, fishing, snow-mobiling and boating at Lake Minnedosa. With wonderful memories, we say good-bye to a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by: his loving wife, Marlene (nee MacMillan) of 41 years; son Warren (Sarah) Shantz and grandchildren, Katie, Megan and Tom of Calgary; daughter Janid (Mike) Roziere and grandson, Mathew of Winnipeg. Vern is also survived by sisters; Lauretta (Dick) Cockle of Snow Lake, Alice (Charlie) Winslow of Souris, Darlene (Miron) Atamanchuk of Redwater, Alberta. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Edna MacMillan of Brandon; brothers-in-law, Murray (Sylvia) MacMillan of Brandon, John (Dianne) MacMillan of Grenfell, Saskatchewan, Frank Horvath of Brandon as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by, his parents Floyd and Violet and a sister Verna Horvath. The Ceremony to Celebrate Vern's Life will be held at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Laird Russell-Yearwood of Central United Church will officiate. A private graveside service will be held at the Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
