DUNCALFE: Lloyd Alvin Duncalfe of Brandon passed away peacefully, with his wife Sheena by his side, on February 24, 2006 at the age of 69 years in Victoria, BC. Lloyd was born in Douglas, Manitoba where he attended school. He enjoyed playing hockey and baseball, singing in the choir of the Douglas United Church, being a boy scout, paper carrier and working on his Uncle's farm. He moved with his family to Austin where he completed high school and met his life long partner, Sheena. They married and moved to Brandon to make a home and raise their family. Lloyd began working at Pioneer Electric where he pursued a career in Industrial Accounting, eventually assuming the Plant Manager Position in 1972. He enjoyed hunting, curling, golfing and bowling with his Pioneer buddies and his love of sports continued through his lifetime. In 1975, Lloyd joined Cancade Company Ltd and later became a partner. He managed accounting and sales and thoroughly enjoyed dealing with business contacts in Southern Manitoba and Western Canada. He served on the Board of Managers for St. Andrew's Church and found adventure researching families roots, joining the Genealogy Society as Treasurer where he was honoured to receive the Ruth Testor Award. Lloyd also participated in the Canadian distribution of the "Dossier", a news letter about the "Duncalf(e)'s" of the world. His talent in math and games took him to the Eastends' Sunshine Club while the Good Sam Club offered fun of travel in his Getaway Van. Lloyd lived for his family, enjoying the children's music and spending hours listening to Sheena play favorite tunes. Every summer, for forty-two years, Lloyd found himself surrounded by his family at the cottage in Minnedosa where the most cherished memories were kindled around many bonfires, fishing and boating trips. Their 50th Wedding Anniversary was celebrated at the lake last summer and Lloyd sang to Sheena, much to everyone's amazement in fairly good tune. Lloyd's adventurous spirit took him to many places. The last four winters, he took the love of his life, to Victoria. He was most adored for his loving and sensitive, gentle nature as well as his sense of humour. He also was an organizer, a great planner and a do-it-yourselfer. Lloyd was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan and Ethel Duncalfe. He will be lovingly remembered by: his wife, Sheena; children, Brenda (Ralph) Berg, Murray (Susan) Duncalfe, Leanne (Les) Brackenreed and Norma (Bob) Donogh; grandchildren, Matthew and Joshua Berg, Marcie and Shelby Duncalfe, Nolan, Karli and Angela Brackenreed; Lindsay and Rylie Donogh; brother, Verne (Jean) Duncalfe; sister-in-law, Marion (Gordon) Gilman and his nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Lloyd's Life was held on March 4, 2006 at St. Andrew's Church. Rev. Paul Sakasov officiated. Rylie Donogh played the violin and Urn Bearers were Matthew, Nolan and Joshua. Interment followed in the Madford Cemetery, Douglas. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com Arrangements were with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
Taken from Lloyd's Autobiography
Thank you for love that each of you has shown, but now the time has come for me to travel on alone. I won't be far away as your lives go on, but I'll be near and if you listen with your heart you will hear all my love around you, so very soft and clear. So when you too must come this way alone, I'll be here to greet you with a smile and say "Welcome Home".Memorials
