Obituary

Leverna (Lee) Miller passed away with her loving family by her side at the Brandon Regional Health Centre Intensive Care Unit, on Wednesday, February 21, 2001. She is survived by her children: Ila (Robert) Swain of Roland, Manitoba, Linda Smith of Cross Lake, Floyd (Phyllis) Miller of Harding, Manitoba, and Mona (Rob) Blowatt of Angusville, Manitoba; grandchildren: Kevin (Bev) Swain, Gordon (Nancy) Swain, Joppe (Toute) Smith, Dean (Laverne) Smith, Deana, Valinda and Twila Smith, Sherri (David) Kyle, Derek (Jodi) Miller, Regan Miller and Naomi Miller, Robert Glenn, Shane, Lloyd and Kayla Blowatt; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn Swain and Caleb Swain, Cassie Smith and Michelle Kyle. Sisters-in-law: Edith Rennie, Nora Onslow, Florence Miller, special friend Albert Chacun; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Lloyd G. Miller; son-in-law, Alfred Smith; parents, LeRoy and Alice Alton; sister, Anne (Norman) Maher; brother, LeRoy Alton; brothers-in-law, Norman Maher, Warren Rennie, Joe Onslow and Cecil Miller. Our mother was born January 16, 1921, in Halton County, Ontario growing up near Guelph on the family farm with sister Anne and brother LeRoy. In 1946, she married her soldier friend Lloyd G. Miller, and they moved to the farm at Medora, Manitoba, the first of many homes including Tilston, Gordon Siding, Bradwardine, Rapid City and Rivers. Father was an elevator manager and Mother made a home for her family of four children wherever the job took them. Years of caring for and encouraging her children, sewing, curling, quilting, camping, gardening and other community activities ensued. Upon father's retirement, they took up traveling in their camper van and golfing, sometimes among the cacti of southern Saskatchewan, or by the large waves of Lake Winnipeg, or south of the border. They loved to visit family, and many a golf trip included a family visit. In 1993, Mom lost her partner of 46 years and missed him terribly. She did what she'd always done though, becoming involved with Rapid City Seniors and carrying on knitting, sewing and involving herself in family life. Then a special friend came along, someone to do things with, someone to make each day a day to look forward to, and life became more enjoyable again. In recent years, Mom's life revolved around her fmaily (as always), her love of bingo, crafts (knitting and crocheting), flowers, coffeeing, cards and games. We are so grateful that for 80 years Mom was able to share a healthy full life with her family and friends. A Funeral Service to celebrate her life was held at Memories Chapel, in Brandon, on Saturday, February 24, 2001, with Jason Hodson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Mom: There will always be a heartache and often a silent tear, But always precious memories of the days when you were here. We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain, To walk with us throughout our lives until we meet again. ~ Love Ila, Linda, Floyd and Mona. Memorials
